VALPOI: Golavali residents are living in fear for the last three months after a tigress was spotted in the village.
Three cows have been killed by the tigress so far, according to the villagers, and it’s growling could be heard in the locality many times.
Golavali is small hamlet near the Karnataka border and it forms an important part of the Western Ghats with thick forest area.
Villagers stated that nowadays, animals come down to the village in search of food, which is becoming scarce in their habitat due to deforestation.
They added that the animals often cause panic in the village.
Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary forest officer Paresh Porob has confirmed that a tigress is moving around in the village. He stated, “I have tried many times to capture its picture in a camera fixed in the forest area, but could not succeed in doing so clearly. Only one blurred picture of the tigress has been taken from that camera.”
