MARGAO, MARCH 1
Angry villagers of Cotyar-Fatorpa on Sunday stopped trucks transporting bauxite and demanded a stop to the transportation of the ore on Sundays.
They pointed out that the ore transporters had earlier agreed to stop transporting bauxite on Sundays on the Naqueri-Balli road as per the demands of the local villages.
However, the villagers found trucks laden with ore plying on the road and immediately staged a rasta roko, disrupting vehicular traffic for quite some time.
The Cuncolim police, which rushed to the stop, cleared the road for traffic after the transporters agreed to stop plying the vehicles on Sundays.
Meanwhile, traffic on the NH-17 at Navelim was disrupted for around two hours after a huge tree came crashing down on the road.
The road was later cleared for traffic after personnel of the fire services removed the tree.
