Telaulim villagers on Sunday demanded realignment of the Margao Western by-pass and to reduce the proposed 80-metre width to 40 metres.
At the gram Sabha meeting on Sunday, members raised apprehensions that the bypass would destroy residential house and the eco-sensitive zone in the village.
A section of the members demanded the scrapping of the bypass, but later agreed for the realignment since the previous gram Sabha meeting had resolved to ask for the realignment.
Deputy Sarpanch Estevan Goes later told HCN that the people have called for shifting of the bypass to save houses as well as paddy fields.
A gram Sabha member Franky Pereira said that the bypass would certainly affect the house and lamented that the government has not come out with a concrete plan for the rehabilitation of the displaced people.
He apprehended that the village eco-sensitive zone, besides the environment would be affected if the bypass is allowed to pass as per the original alignment.
Some of the gram sabha members also demanded that the government withdraw the mining rights saying mining in the locality would leave water contaminated and pose health hazard to the residents.
The meeting has also constituted a committee to study the garbage disposal by tenants staying in rented premises let out by the locals.
