MARGAO: The opposition has started brewing to the plan of the Government to set up State of Art Shrimp and Fin fish hatchery on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis.
The Director of Fisheries had published an advertisement stating that they are going to set up a State of Art Shrimp and Fin fish hatchery on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis on the prawns Hatchery in the village of Benaulim.
The Former Sarpanch of Benaulim Royla Fernandes had written a letter stating, “I have requested Panchayat to hold a special meeting along with Stakeholders and yourself MLA so that we can discuss and find a proposal to utilize the space for the benefit of our locals. August 31, being the deadline for the submission of tender bids, I request you to initiate measures to utilise the same for local community”.
Captain Venzy Viegas has called to people of Benaulim especially the farmers to request the Government not to lease out the prime 10 acre land of the fisheries department to some private corporate but allow the Fishermen of Benaulim to use this land for the benefit and promotion of local fish business.
The last date for the tender’s submission is on 31st August and the concerned locals have been asked to register their opposition to the PPP model development of the prawn’s hatchery.
