MARGAO: A group of residents of Margao on Monday charged the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for letting the 118th anniversary of the Municipal heritage building pass off without any mention.
Expressing frustration former Chairperson Savio Coutinho and others stated that in the quest to please the higher ups in the rank and file of the BJP High Command, by showing keen interest to watch PM’s ‘Man Ki Bat’, the Councillors of MMC headed by the Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar, let the 118th anniversary of the municipal building pass off without any mention.
Recently, O Heraldo had brought to the notice of the commercial town’s administrators and the general public about the heritage building of the Municipal council completing 118 years on April 30.
It was also revealed that the proposal moved by the council before the GSUDA for renovation of the building is yet to get the approval from the government, resulting in the building continuing to be ignored pertaining to its maintenance.
He further stated that the Margao Municipal Council building which was completed and Inaugurated on April 30, 1905 completed 118 years on Sunday and it was expected that the Council would mark this special day at least with a simple programme, but in vain.
He said the councillors had all the time and reason to celebrate the BJP Foundation Day as well, but preferred to totally ignore the 118th anniversary of the institution which has given them a social status.
Several walls around the city got painted to give a neat and clean background for the BJP symbol, however not much efforts are taken to give a face lift to the iconic Municipal building, which is desperately craving for attention, he stated further.
The Former Chairperson said that people are watching the actions of the converted representatives, and will surely be reminded at an appropriate time.
