CALANGUTE: Calangute villagers and activists from the Calangute-Candolim beach-belt on Monday held a meeting with Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and panchayat members to voice their anger at the daily power cuts since the beginning of April.
Angry villagers said the power problem has now become a regular feature every year during the months of April-May and despite promises made by electricity department officials there has been no improvement in the situation
Sequeira said he would take villagers along with him to meet the electricity department chief engineer and would also facilitate a meeting with the power minister inorderto find a solution.
He also denied allegations that the panchayat has refused to give an NOC to the electricity department to lay underground electricity cables to the new sub-station at Arradi in Candolim, pointing out that the work is being carried out in the Boa Viagem area.
