PANJIM: With many institutions and public places such as schools, clubs, bars and too some extent lesser visits to restaurants, people in Goa and all over the country are attuned to less sickness which is being felt equally by the doctors as well as pharmacists.
“Now a days lot of people stay indoors. Even the educational institutions are closed, tourism halted, even many other businesses are closed, and this saw reduced flow of clients,” said Raj Vaidya of Hindu Pharmacy.
President of Chemist and Druggist Association of Goa, Albert De Sa believes that the acute segment sales have gone down, which means there is less demand for anti-biotics.
“This could be because people are having a healthy life and not much interactions as schools, cinema halls, clubs, bars etc are closed. People still have the fear in their mind and they do not come out unless absolutely necessary. They are taking all precautions when they come out and hence less numbers of people are falling sick,” he said.
He further added that people have started taking care of their health and are doing their exercises regularly which has enhanced their immunity. Now in this lockdown they have learnt to live the healthy way. Also since there is no much traffic on the roads with hardly any tourists around, the number of accidents on the roads have also reduced drastically.
Dr Eugene D’Silva, a well-established and senior doctor in Goa believes that, “The patients who used to come before for every symptom have stopped coming. It is not just that their ailments have become less but they are taking precautions and avoiding visiting doctors unless absolutely necessary due to fear of Covid-19. Almost all hospitals are seeing the reduction in patient visits and it is happening all over the country. We seem to act too quickly in terms of getting medicines mainly because there are too many doctors in Goa as compared to its population.”
Yet another well-known doctor from Caranzalem on condition of anonymity said that, “Yes the numbers of patients have certainly dropped and it seems that people are staying indoors and are now healthy as they are not engaging with other people much and the chances of contracting diseases from others reduces drastically. Also people are more cautious and are using mask, sanitisers and maintaining social distancing to a large extent.”
