Lockdown: South Goa Police collect Rs 25.26 lakh as fines

Register FIR against 234, seize 206 vehicles

MARGAO: Since the lockdown started on March 25, till April 17 South Goa Police have registered First Information Report against 234 for violating the order issued under Section 144 by the Collector. 

Besides, arresting 470 people for such violations, they seized 206 vehicles and collected Rs 25.26 lakh as fines from the offenders.

The Margao Division having Margao Town, Maina Curtorim, Colva, Cuncolim and Fatorda police stations has performed the best when compared to other divisions such as the Ponda, Quepem and Vasco.

Margao Division topped in all four categories as it filed 106 First Information Reports, arrested 157 persons, seized 75 vehicles and booked 7,484 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act. Besides, it collected the highest amount by way of fines amounting to Rs 9.13 lakh.

Margao Town Police Station recorded the highest number of FIRs for violations being 41 cases while the least were recorded at Collem and Mormugao police stations which recorded only three and four cases respectively.

Ponda Police Station made the highest number of arrests, 70 persons, which was followed by Vasco Police Station where 68 persons were arrested and the least arrests were made by Collem Police Station, only five.

Vasco Police Station seized the maximum number of vehicles being 51 followed by Margao Town Police Station who seized 30 vehicles while Mormugao and Collem Police Stations seized the least vehicles being five and three respectively.

Fatorda Police Station registered the most number of cases under Motor Vehicles Act which was 3,013 followed by Ponda Police Station where 2,949 such cases were registered while Vasco Railway Station registered 355. The least cases registered by Collem Police Station, 414.

Verna Police Station collected the highest amount by way of fine which was Rs 3.86 lakh followed by Fatorda Police Station that collected Rs 3.26 lakh. Collem Police Station collected the least fine Rs 42,550. Vasco Railway Police whose jurisdiction is only around the railway station collected Rs 37,250 as fines.

Incidentally, the Konkan Railway Police booked 710 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected Rs 75,200 by way of fine.
