Vasco: The first day of the lockdown in the port town of Vasco was successful.
Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Nandadeep Raut opined that the lockdown is the need of the hour to curtail and contain the COVID infection.
He further applauded the State government’s decision to impose the three-day-lockdown.
However, he reiterated that the government should have implemented a lockdown, especially for Vasco long back in view of the cases in the area.
He added that all the 25 councillors and the local MLA Carlos Almeida had been demanding for lockdown for Vasco. He pointed out that had the government taken such a decision earlier, the situation today would have been different.
He pointed out that he himself had tested positive and has now recovered from COVID-19.
He also urged the people not to panic and demanded that the lockdown be extended for more days in Vasco.
On Friday, Vasco wore a deserted look with shops and other commercial establishments remaining closed.
