PANJIM: The Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) has decided to initiate the process of filling up large number of posts once the lockdown is lifted. Exams, including the Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT), had been postponed to an indefinite date after the nationwide lockdown was announced to stop the spread of COVID-19.

As per details provided by GPSC Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha, 233 posts across various government departments were advertised between January and May 2020, in response to which 6,500-odd applications have been received.

GPSC subjects all applicants to CBRT to shortlist candidates for an interview, however with the lockdown in force and with colleges closed, these examinations cannot be conducted till colleges are permitted to commence their academic activities.

A large number of positions have been advertised in higher education, Civil Aviation, Health services, Goa Dental College, Goa Medical College, Department of Mines and Geology, Skill Training, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Agriculture Department, among others.

One of the most touted posts – Junior Scale Officer – has more than 3,600 applications for the 22 vacancies advertised earlier this year. The CBRT was scheduled in March-end but this too was postponed due to the pandemic.

Besides, the Commission has advertised posts of Agricultural Officers for the fourth time and received 125 applications for nine posts. There are 28 positions in Goa Dental College, for which almost 250 applications have been received while 1,500 applications have been received for 75 posts of Assistant Professor in various disciplines at the Directorate of Higher Education. For the three positions of Junior Scientific Officer in Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) more than 125 applications have been received. No applications have been received for Radiologist, Assistant Professor in Neurology and Principal of Goa College of Music whereas 38 applications have been received for the two positions of Geologist in Mines Department and 70 applications for Principal of ITI.

The post of Assistant Director of Education was advertised for the second time since the last interview saw no candidate clearing the recruitment process. A total of 27 applications have been received this time.
