PANJIM: Hailing the decision of the retired Justice U V Bakre not to accept the position of Goa Lokayukta, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that the decision proves that people of merit don’t want to be mere “cheerleaders” hold a “decorative post of a toothless Lokayukta”.
In a press statement issued, AAP Goa Convener Rahul Mhambre said he had on February 11 tweeted that the Lokayukta in Goa is reduced to being a cheerleader and a toothless tiger.
“Justice Bakre who had earlier given his consent to accept the position has now withdrawn the consent and this is the right decision that would be taken up by any person with integrity and honesty,” Mhambre said.
He recalled that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant amended the Lokayukta Act in January this year which had raised a lot of controversies with a cross section of the society objecting to the amendments.
