Lokayukta submits names of 13 MLAs to Governor

The errant legislators, which includes both the Dy CMs, failed to submit their financial statements for the year 2018-19 before the ombudsman body

PANJIM: Deputy Chief Ministers- Chandrakant Kavlekar and Manohar Ajgaonkar – are amongst the 13 MLAs whose names have been submitted to the Goa Governor by Lokayukta for failing to submit their financial statements for the year 2018-19 before the ombudsman body. 
As per the Goa Lokayukta Act, the public functionaries are bound to submit their statements of assets and liabilities to the Lokayukta in the prescribed form. The last date for submission of the financial statement ending March 31, 2019 was November 5, 2019. 
The public functionaries, after being served notices, were asked to submit their statement of assets and liabilities by January 7, 2020, failing which their names were to be published in the newspaper. 
A total of 13 MLAs failed to respond to the notice. These include the two deputy CMs, former Minister and GFP MLA Vinod Palyekar, BJP MLAs Clafasio Dias, Wilfred D’Sa, Francisco Silveira, Subhash Shirodkar, Carlos Almeida, Antonio Fernandes, Nilkanth Kalarnkar, Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, NCP’s Churchill Alemao and Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar. 
“As contemplated in section 21 (2) steps are being taken to publish their names in two newspapers having wide circulation in Goa. As required under section 21 (2) this report is being submitted to the Governor so that the matter may be placed before the Legislative Assembly of Goa as contemplated in section 21 (2),” the notice by Goa Lokayukta PK Misra mentioned.
