PANJIM: City Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Thursday informed that the annual ‘Lokotsav’ organised by Art and Culture Department will be shifted from Kala Academy to Campal parade ground.
However, the department claims that the 10-day event will be held at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy from January 10 to January 19, 2020.
Around 500 performing artistes from different States of India will participate in this festival and present folk dances and folk culture of their States. Over 600 craft persons and traditional food vendors from various States will put up their stalls to showcase and sell their handicrafts, handlooms, traditional jewellery items, cuisine etc.
Speaking to media persons, Madkaikar said the shifting of the location is proposed considering the complaints from the locals about traffic jam due to Lokotsav at Kala Academy.
He said the shifting of venue will provide additional place for parking, while the stalls will bigger in size.
Madkaikar said CCP would be communicating to the Art and Culture Department requesting it to shift the venue.
When contacted, sources in Art and Culture Department said there is no such proposal before them to shift the venue and that the process of accepting applications for stalls has already started.
“The event is annually held at Kala Academy and this year too it will take place at the same venue,” sources said.
Meanwhile, the CCP said the event will be complete ‘plastic-free’.
