CANACONA: Opposing the application for digging a borewell at Madditolop plateau, Loliem-Polem gram sabha members on Sunday said the panchayat has passed a resolution in 2008 not to allow digging of borewells in the village.
The gram sabha evoked a lukewarm response as only over 20 locals attended.
Sarpanch Ajay Lolienkar caught the members by surprise when he said that this is his last gram sabha as sarpanch and by June the panchayat would get a new sarpanch. Secretary Sandeep Desai read the minutes of the last gram sabha.
The bore well applicant said the resolution is applicable for big hotel projects and not for domestic purposes.
The sarpanch said the panchayat had stopped a private party from Shellim from digging a bore well and the aggrieved party has approached the court. As such it is not advisable to issue NOC to the applicant concerned.
The other issue discussed was regarding an application from a senior citizen raising concerns about Mashem-Galgibaga River filling, but everyone’s surprise there was not even a single elder present at the sabha.
On the river filling issue, Lolienkar informed the members that the matter is in the court and is sub judice.
Deputy sarpanch Jasica Corte, Shailesh Pagi, Nishant Prabhudesai, Nayan Bandekar, Alfansa Araujo and Bhushan Prabhugaonkar were present.
