MARGAO: Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, has called on the State government to take action against the numerous violations occurring at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, warning that disaster could strike if they fail to act.
Alemao claimed that there are widespread violations in the estate and expressed hope that CM Pramod Sawant would shut down units that violate government guidelines.
Alemao praised BJP MLAs Deviya Rane and Rajesh Faldessai for calling out the government’s shortcomings in the industrial estates in Goa, during the recent Legislative Assembly Session. He had previously moved a private member resolution calling for a high-level inquiry commission composed of experts under a retired High Court judge to investigate issues in the industrial estates, but it was not listed in the business.
Valpoi MLA Dr. Deviya Rane highlighted irregularities and violations in the Honda Industrial Estate, while Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai criticized the government’s handling of the Corlim Industrial Estate. Alemao emphasized that he has consistently raised concerns about illegalities, pollution, and encroachments in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, while Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa expressed concerns about pollution affecting farmers in his constituency.
