MARGAO: After paying floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial and Statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia on Sunday, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao issued a message to the government where he emphasised upon the importance of commemorating Goa Revolution Day with a State function at Lohia Maidan, Margao where Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes lit the flame of Goa’s Liberation movement.
Congress President Amit Patkar, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, South Goa Congress President Savio D’Silva and other Congress leaders and workers also paid tributes to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Freedom Fighters on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day.
“BJP government must protect monuments and temples of freedom struggle and respect freedom fighters,” said Alemao.
While addressing media persons, the LoP blamed the BJP government for its failure to notify Lohia Maidan as place of historical importance despite his repeated appeals to government.
“I appeal to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to act on the concerns raised by Goa Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association President Gurudas Kunde. He exposed the failure of the government to give timely pension and jobs to children of freedom fighters. He also appealed to the government not to wipe out freedom fighters and stop converting Aguada Jain and Reis Magos Fort into bars,” said Alemao
“I am happy that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the efforts of the Goa government on Solar Power Generation. Congress Party had declared on this Lohia Maidan on 18th June 2021 to scrap the three linear projects. The Prime Minister’s statement makes it clear that Goa can sustain on Renewable Energy. I reiterate our demand to scrap the three Anti-Environment Linear Projects, the Cuncolim Congress MLA added.
