LoP tells Transport Minister to focus on State’s bad roads

Says minister needs to take steps to ensure that fatal accidents stop; alleges corruption in Transport Department

MARGAO: Claiming that pathetic condition of the roads is the main cause for repeated fatal accidents in Goa, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao on Friday demanded that the Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho focus on the issue.

“The minister needs to take steps to ensure that the fatal accidents stop,” he stated.

Alemao said that innocent lives are lost almost daily in fatal accidents across the State. “The pathetic road conditions, corruption in the Road Transport Department are the main cause for these accidents. There is absolutely no control on maintaining roads and checking road worthiness of vehicles,” he added.

“It is high time that the Transport Minister focuses on the Goan roads. He needs to take steps to ensure that the fatal accidents stop. Families are getting shattered because of negligence and apathy of the BJP Government,” alleged the LoP.

Right from Patradevi to Mapusa and Verna Highway as well as Mollem-Ponda, roads have now turned into killer zones.

“Going by Minister’s claim that a third Airport is needed as tourists will increase in manifold, I hope the Transport Minister will not ask the Tourism Minister to come up with a ‘Airport Policy’ on line with his controversial Jetty Policy,” taunted Yuri.
