PANJIM: Stating that engineering is an old art and skill that existed in the country, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said that Lord Parshuram, who according to mythology created Goa, must have been an engineer as he reclaimed land from the sea. Parrikar was speaking at an event organised by Goa Engineers Society on the occasion of Engineering Day, celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna M Visvesvaraya. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Irani, was also present.
“This is a day when India recognises the importance of engineering talent. Engineering is a very old art and skill that existed in India but recognised in the modern era,” the Chief Minister said.
“Goa is a typical example of engineering as we have khazan land, though many of them have been damaged today,” he said.
Referring to the origin of Goa as per mythology, Parrikar stated, “It is said that Lord Parshuram created Goa. I believe that Parshuram must have been belonging to the clan of engineers who reclaimed the land from the sea.”
The Chief Minister said that engineers always speak through their creations and that he wishes all engineers in Goa start implementing projects through their creations.
