Lotlikar named AG, additional AG appointment not made

PANJIM: The State government on Wednesday appointed senior counsel Saresh Lotlikar as the new Advocate General (AG) of Goa.

The post had fallen vacant after advocate Atmaram Nadkarni had resigned following his appointment as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India, last month.
The appointment was made through a notification issued by Under secretary (Law) Manuel Barreto. His name was cleared by the State Cabinet earlier.
The cabinet had also approved the appointment of advocate Dattaprasad Lawande as additional advocate general and in charge of the special legal cell. The appointment has not yet been made.
An advocate general is accorded the status of a cabinet minister and is entitled to benefits that accrue to a minister by a virtue of his cabinet status.
Nadkarni will continue to represent Goa in sensitive matters such as mining, Mhadei water dispute and other important cases before the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
