Lotus will bloom in Ponda at next Assembly election: CM

MGP-backed PMC Councillor Dhavalikar joins BJP

PONDA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday confidently said that the lotus would bloom in Ponda in 2022 and the BJP would get full majority in the next Assembly election.

The Chief Minister was addressing the media persons on the sideline of a function organised to welcome MGP-backed Ponda Municipal Council Councillor Virendra Dhavalikar into BJP.

“BJP is becoming strong in Ponda after joining of MGP Councillor Dhavalikar. BJP since last many elections was eager and waiting to win the Ponda Assembly seat and now the wait is over as in the next Assembly election the dream would be realised,” stated the Chief Minister.

It may be recalled that the BJP had won from all the three constituencies namely Priol, Marcaim and Shiroda but not succeed to win from Ponda.

Chief Minister said, “Today with lot of enthusiasm it is almost appeared an election fever is gripping in Ponda.”

With BJP giving a jolt to MGP by horse-trading their two councillors and now having control over 10 councillors is likely to bring no confidence motion against the MGP-backed deputy chairperson.

MGP Councillor Virendra Dhavalikar along with 200 supporters joined the BJP in presence of Chief Minister.

Four days back, MGP Councillor Yatish Sawkar had joined BJP. This is a blow to MGP in the Ponda Municipal Council. The BJP now has 10 councillors while MGP has five in the 15-member council. There is no presence of Congress after joining of three Congress councillors into BJP including Ritesh Naik, son of Ponda MLA Ravi Naik.
