MAPUSA: After initial respite from noise pollution following the High Court orders to stop loud music beyond 10 pm, except on designated dates, the menace of loud music parties in the coastal belt has returned to haunt the local residents as the orders are being flaunted openly by the star hotels, restaurants and clubs in the area.
The residents are appalled to see scanty respect for Court orders. They wonder that if the commercial establishments could defy Court orders, they would not even care for directions of State authorities, including pollution control board, police and others.
The music that is supposed to shut down by 10am continues till wee hours of the day and reason of this is best known by the authorities, it is noticeable that music actually commences at 10pm and continues till wee hours of next day.
Desmond Alvares, former member of Anjuna Noise Pollution Committee said, “Places which were supposed to have remained shut as per GSPCB report, are openly flouting the rules with all night parties. But the Collector has still not implemented the order passed in April 2023.”
“Commercial establishments hosting parties, are being playing everywhere all night in full swing with blessings of the police,” Alvares said.
Ravi Harmalkar, a local activist from Anjuna said, “Nobody cares about the orders of the High Court, nor do they care for the people. The police on the other hand are playing deaf.”
Another Anjuna resident said, “The situation is the same as before as the music parties are going while violating all the rules and orders. The parties happen right under the nose of the authorities.”
“These people are least bothered about the locals who are suffering. People who are operating these clubs and restaurants are outsiders who have come here to make business with complete disrespect to law of land,” he said.
