PANJIM: Students appearing for the HSSCE and SSC exams from Anjuna-Caisua have complained of late night loud music in the surrounding areas which makes it difficult for them to study. A number of complaints to the police have yielded no result, locals said.
“We have been complaining to the police for many days regarding the loud music in the vicinity but nobody has acted so far, instead they have giving the contact number of the complainant to the party organizers who returns the call with threats,” Ankit Salgaonkar, resident of Caisua, said.
He said that people from the village fear the party organizers and don’t complain to the police station as the parties have political support.
There are approximately 120 students from the village appearing for the exams, of which the HSSC exams have already began. The village of Anjuna and Caisua has the Anjuna coast on one side and Siolim village on the other where recently parties have commenced. Locals also said that the loud music from Morjim and Ashwem affects them.
Nilesh Fadte another residents said children do not get any peace time to concentrate on their studies as even at 5.00 am, when students wake up for a last-minute preparation, loud music can be heard.
“This is the sorry state of affairs, a village which was very peaceful once is now crying for help from the authorities. The peace of the entire village is ruined, the young generation is at risk,” Fadte, from Caisua said.
Another resident who did not want to disclose his identity said the police and politicians are hand-in-glove and are not bothered about the children. “I have sent my daughter to her uncle’s place to study for the exams due to the late night loud music which was disturbing her. Late night loud music parties have increased in recent times,” he said.
Deputy Sarpanch of Anjuna Caisua Panchayat Savio Almeida said the gram sabha has resolved not to allow late night parties in the vicinity in view of the exams.
“We have dispatched a letter to the police and the government asking to initiate action against these activities, we have also informed them of the gram sabha resolution. It is unfortunate that none are acting to secure the future of our children,” Almeida said.
