Loud speakers banned for Ramnathi narkasur contest, group cancels event

PONDA: The Ramanathi Yuva Sangh (RYS) has condemned the government for denying permission to use loud speakers during an All Goa Narkasur effigy contest at Ramnathi on November 9, due to which the contest has been cancelled.

Condemning the deputy collector’s decision banning loud speakers, RYS President Saurab Lotlikar said his organisation has been holding the contest peacefully for the last eight years.
Lotlikar said that the permission was denied on ground that a Narkasur effigy group allegedly clashed with a Sanatan Sadhak, last year near the Ramnathi ashram.
He said by denying permission for using loud speakers, the district administration has done injustice to Bandora villagers who go to watch the contest in large numbers. RYS members have also condemned the deputy collector for denying the use of loud speakers.
