MARGAO: The newly-elected panchayat body of Loutolim will discuss the controversial coastal jetty project proposed at Rassaim, at the ordinary gram sabha meeting scheduled for September 4.

The panchayat office has received an application from the villagers requesting an extraordinary gram sabha only to discuss the jetty, said a public notice issued by Sarpanch Joana Fernandes. The villagers also insist that Captain of Ports authorities attend the meeting and respond to their queries regarding the proposed coastal jetty.

At an earlier meeting, Environmentalist Abhijit Prabhudesai of Rainbow Warriors had pointed out the various mistakes made in the plans, that have allegedly been prepared without consulting local stakeholders, including the panchayat, due to which existing houses have been shown in CRZ area, making them liable to be demolished in the future.

It may be recalled that earlier too, the Loutolim gram sabha besides objecting to the proposed jetty had also objected to the public hearing on the coastal zone management plan pertaining to the project, after it was announced to be held at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao. The people of Loutolim had demanded that the public hearing be held in their village.

Earlier, following much discussion, the villagers had rejected the proposed jetty at Rassaim and also objected to the CZMP.
