MARGAO: Residents from Loutolim village have demanded that a joint inspection of the missing link road be held urgently, to prevent the possible loss of life due to road accidents, considering the worrisome frequency of accidents that have taken place on the stretch.

There have been concerns about accidents involving heavy vehicles and the lack of adequate safety measures on the road, which was supposed to link the National Highway running through the village, to Verna.

Local resident Ramiro Mascarenhas also wrote to the Loutolim panchayat about this and pointed out that for the last year and a half since the missing link road was inaugurated, this issue had been raised repeatedly. Citing the increase in the movement of heavy transport vehicles, he referred to the number of major and minor accidents and that the authorities like the PWD had failed to deliver on promises made. He added that several reminders had been sent to the PWD too, but in vain.

He pointed to the accidents that have taken place near the Vanxem Chapel and in ‘Ambadeakodde’ and ‘Chinchekodde’ and that it has become increasingly difficult for residents of Vanxem to walk on the shoulders, even to cross or enter the main road from the village roads
