MARGAO: Residents of Loutolim are fed up with repeated incidents of waste dumping bythe road side, despite warnings. On Monday, yet another
person was caught red-handed dumping garbage at Verna plateau.
Fed up with such incidents, citizens have now demanded that the concerned authorities, including the panchayat, come up with some measures in order to stop such nuisances in the village.
Few nights ago, a soil tanker was caught at the Verna plateau while discharging waste water from the waste treatment plant located at Chicalim. Later, the village panchayat of Loutolim had fined the driver of the tanker and warned of action, if the act is repeated.
On Monday morning, citizens caught the driver of private vehicle involved in dumping the waste on the road side and made him clean the site.
Speaking to O Heraldo, few citizens of Loutolim have expressed their
anger over the issue and stated that lack of vigil and failure of strict action
has resulted in these repeated incidents.
Taking serious note of the repeated incidents, Adrian Hillary Barretto,
a resident of Loutolim
demanded monitoring
and security.
“These incidents have been witnessed since the Industrial Estate has come up in the vicinity. Being an industrial estate there is a need for monitoring the entry of the vehicles. Presently, the situation is –anybody can enter and do whatever they want, including dumping of garbage and sewage water”, he stated.
He further said that someone needs to take up the responsibilities in order to stop such incidents, wherein people from the Loutolim have to suffer due to nuisance created by somebody else.
“We are fed up with the menace of garbage and sewage water. Garbage is being dumped on the roadside causing major mess in the area. The beauty of the village is lost due to such type of activities, which are also causing major health issues to the residents,” said Peter Fernandes, a resident of Loutolim said.
He also said that the people of Loutolim have to bear the consequences for no fault of theirs as the people from outside the jurisdiction of the Loutolim are involved in creating garbage and sewage menace over here.
