Loutolim village, is witnessing heightened tensions as local residents protest against the proposed construction of a new Borim-Loutolim bridge, highlighting the potential destruction of vital khazan lands for the associated link road.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) recently issued a notification for the acquisition of 39.3184 hectares (equivalent to 3,93,184 square meters) to facilitate the construction of a new high-level Borim Bridge, complete with approaches over the River Zuari and a Bypass on NH 566. The proposed bypass will stretch over 5.73 kilometers. The Ministry has invited objections and suggestions from affected citizens within a 21-day window, with submissions directed to the Special Land Acquisition Officer at PWD-National Highways (NH), Altinho, Panjim, in written form. Additionally, the blueprint of the intended land acquisition is available for public inspection at the PWD office.
This development has sparked concern among Loutolim residents who fear the repercussions of losing their khazan lands in the name of infrastructure development.
The dispute underscores the delicate balance between infrastructure advancement and environmental preservation, a challenge faced by many communities worldwide.
