VASCO: The Verna police busted a gas pilfering racket at Sancoale on Saturday morning and arrested five workers.
According to the police, the accused allegedly removed two to three-kg of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from filled cylinders into empty cylinders. The less weight cylinders were then sold to gullible customers.
The police arrested five workers while one managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The police have also sealed the godown of the gas agency situated in the Sancoale Industrial Estate and have informed the oil company. The agency/godown owner claimed that the LPG pilferage was being done without his knowledge.
The police said that the consumers should ask the delivery person to check the weight of the LPG cylinder in front of them and should ensure that the cylinder has prescribed weight.
Further investigations are on under the guidance of Verna PI Diago Gracias.
