PANJIM: The BJP alliance partners, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party gave some of the biggest leads in this Lok Sabha elections.
Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar Madkai saw the BJP poll 14056 to the Congress’s 2913 giving the BJP Lok Sabha candidate and now MP designate Narendra Sawaikar a solid 11,000 lead, more than anything the Congress managed to get in even Salcete even with the consolidation of the vote especially after the directions of the church.
Even Ponda, the home town and one that he has been an MLA from multiple number of times saw a lead of almost 4000 go to the BJP candidate.
The BJP polled 11,885 votes to 8004 polled by the Congress. Ponda is represented by MGPs Lavoo Mamlatdar.
Pandurang Dipak Dhawalikar in his North Goa Priol constituency gave the BJP a mammoth 13,000 odd lead with the BJP polling 17129 votes and Congress polling 4127 votes.
The votes polled by the MGP in these areas give an indication of the influence wielded by the Dhavalikar brothers and the MGP in areas that are dominated by the OBC and Schedule Tribe (ST) community.
In Madkai there are approximately the same numbers of both sections while in Priol the ST dominate.
The reason why the Congress had fought to get the ticket was that Ravi Naik being from the same community would manage to dent the vote Shripad Naik of the BJP.
However, it did not seem to work and amidst complaints that the Congress candidate made no efforts to even meet the people and campaign the MGP dominated by the Dhavalikar brothers managed to ensure that their constituencies managed to give massive leads to the BJP underlining their importance to the alliance.
