PONDA: In an major accident between a trolly, a container truck and a scooter, a father-son duo had a lucky escape on Wednesday. Traffic was blocked on the national highway and diverted via the service road. The two heavy vehicles were badly damaged.
The accident took place around 12.15 pm, where in container truck was proceeding from Bali-Cuncolim to Honda and a trolly was proceeding from Murdi to Ponda. When the vehicles reached Opa junction, both vehicles rammed into each other.
Due to this GokuldasTalekar and his son SuhasTalekar from Kavlem who were proceeding towards MRF Usgao on a scooter got caught in the accident, but escaped unhurt.
Both trucks suffered major damage. This is the second major accident at Opa junction. Some couple of years ago a truck rammed into a wayside restaurant at Opa damaging its entire structure. Luckily at that time, the hotel was closed and no one was present at Opa junction.
Sandeep Parkar said, “Since it is summer vacation there were no students at Opa junction and so a major tragedy was averted.”
He questioned whether government is waiting for fatal accidents to happen.
He said there is poor visibility at Opa junction which need to be widened for safety of students and passengers.
He said there is deputy collector order to clear encroachment at Opa junction and provide bus shed but there is no response from Curti-Khandepar Village Panchayat. He questioned if government is waiting for fatal accidents at Opa and then look for a solution.
