Ponda: It was a lucky escape for four car occupants on Monday evening along the Dhavlim –Farmagudi bypass, when the driver while negotiating a sharp turn on the flyover, lost control over the vehicle and rammed into an electric pole on the divider. The impact was such that the car overturned.

The car owner from Borim said, fortunately, he and the other three occupants escaped with minor injuries.

The NH was widened a few years ago. However, earlier too accidents were taking place but even after widening it, the road has turned into an accident prone zone.

According to locals, this is the sixth accident along the road stretch having sharp turn. Last year, a crane driver died on the spot.  In another accident reported at the spot, a truck loaded with scrap was badly damaged.

The locals claim the sharp turn along the road is almost at 90 degree angle and when vehicles move down from Farmagudi slope towards Dhavlim, the drivers fail to negotiate the turn, which results in accidents.

Accidents are taking place due to the faulty road design, complained the locals and  called upon the NH officials to rectify the fault.
