Luizinho says BJP polarising nation on communal lines

Appeals to Congressmen to fight and defeat evil forces; Digambar Kamat says workers are the real strength of the Congress party

MARGAO: Launching a scathing attack on the BJP for polarising the nation on communal lines, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro on Sunday appealed to Congress workers to rededicate themselves to fight the evil forces of division and work together to uphold the principles of secularism, socialism and democracy.
Speaking at the Congress Founder’s Day at the district office, South on Sunday, Faleiro said the recent happenings and utterances of polarizing the nation on communal line is not by accident but by design. “Attempts are being made to rewrite the history by eulogizing the murderer of Mahatma Gandhi. Attempts to cancel the Christmas holiday for schools and celebrating it as Good Governance in public offices is an affront on minorities. It is a wicked attempt to reduce the significance of Christmas in the impressionable minds of small children,” he said.
Faleiro said that forced mass conversions of minorities labelled as ‘GharVapsi’ is a proof of the culture of intolerance, culture of hatred and culture of divisiveness. “The brazen outburst by a member of BJP’s frontal organization vowing to eradicate the minorities from this country by 2021, only speaks of the venomous design of dividing this great nation, which the Congress party and its leaders have painstakingly built on secular
fabric,” he added.
Former chief minister, Digambar Kamat said that workers are the real strength of the Congress party. He underlined the need to inculcate the Congress party ideology as part of the efforts to strengthen
the party.
The function was addressed by Girish Chodankar, M K Sheikh and others. Former Minister Felipe Neri Rodrigues, former MLA Shyam Sattardekar, Moti Desai, Saifullah Khan, besides South Goa district President Subhash Faldesai were amongst those who were present. On the occasion, Congress workers were felicitated at the hands of the party president.
Meanwhile, Founder’s Day of the Congress party was celebrated at Congress office at Panjim on Sunday, in the presence of Congress leaders and workers. On the occasion four senior Congressmen were felicitated by GPCC President that included SonuVelip, Sadanand Kanekar, Late Alban Vaz (Posthumously) and Juliana D’Costa.
