VASCO: Lukewarm response was seen to the Zilla Panchayat elections in the Cortalim Constituency.
Only 46.62 per cent voting was recorded. Many voters felt that hasty decision to hold the elections, less time frame for campaigning and the COVID-19 pandemic are the few reasons for the lower turnout.
Many people from Cortalim Constituency were not happy over the elections being held in a hasty manner. Many voters who had come to cast their vote said that most of the old and young people are unaware of the ZP elections and not much awareness which was needed has been done for this election. There was also not much time frame for campaigning for the candidates. This has contributed to the low voters’ turnout at the polling stations.
