Valpoi: Although the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has claimed that there is no lumpy cattle disease in the State, dozens of animals infected animals freely wandering around is a cause of concern in Valpoi.
Locals here were upset with the authorities for turning a Nelson’s eye to the issue which is spreading far and wide.
In the last eight days, fourcows were found dead in Brionda and the reason is yet to be ascertained.
Cattle deaths have also been reported at Thane but the exact number was not clear. The State has banned the import of cattle from other states, however, no measures are taken to treat the infected animals.
Pictures of infected cattle posted on social media by Omkar Shirodkar have now gone viral. “These animals have injuries and white stripes all over their bodies and are found roaming freely in Valpoi city. Neither the municipality nor the animal husbandry department has paid any attention to the situation,” said Shirodkar.
When contacted, Bhironda sarpanch Uday Singh Rane stated that cattle deaths have been reported here and appealed to the department of animal husbandry to take immediate action to bring the situation under control.
