MARGAO: Lyndon Pereira of Fatorda Forward and Dipali Sawal of Model Margao are all set to be the chairperson and vice chairperson of Margao Municipal Council following discussion this evening between Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Lyndon has been elected from Ward No 3 while Dipali from Ward No 16. They will be filing their nomination papers on Wednesday, before noon and the nominations will be scrutinised by evening.
Lyndon and Dipali are the only candidates who will file their nominations as the BJP that has eight councillors is not fielding for the posts.
Apparently, Lyndon was agreed upon primarily because the Fatorda Forward has nine councillors while Model Margao floated by Digambar has only seven councillors and one councillor was elected as an independent.
Meanwhile, councillor Damodar Shirodkar, who has staked his claim to be the chairperson is upset with Digambar for proposing Dipali as the vice chairperson and ignoring him. “This is the reward I get for working for him for the last 20 years,” said Damodar.
However, there is likely to be a change in this situation after around 15 months as Vijai has suggested that the chairperson and vice-chairperson post be held in rotation.
