PANJIM: M V Venkat Rao Contractors is most likely to win the contract for the four-lane Talpona and Galgibaga bridge in Canacona taluka.
According to sources, the tender for the project was floated by the National Highways Authority of India and M V Venkat Rao Contractors have emerged the lowest bidder with a bid Rs 279 crore. “Though their name has been finalised, the work order is yet to be issued,” sources said.
The project has a four-lane bypass road from ‘Char Rasta’ near Chaudi up to Mashem in Canacona. The Talpona and Galgibaga bridges are part of this project. The bypass will reduce the distance between Chaudi and Mashem by over 15 km.
The 7.74 km-long bypass road will include three bridges – one each over the Talpona river (450m), the Galgibaga river (500m) and over the Mashem river (130m). The four-lane road will have a 1.2m wide median in the centre and 1.5m wide footpaths on either side.
