MARGAO: The locals of Macazana village opposed the plans of the panchayat for building a shopping complex at the spot where a heritage primary school exists.

At the largely attended gram sabha, which ended without any final decision being taken, the villagers had conveyed the reasons why they were opposing the plans for this shopping complex.

It may be recalled that the villagers including the former sarpanch had questioned what would happen to the students of the primary and pre-primary school that has been run by the Diocesen Society.

The villagers pointed out that the Parent-Teacher Association as well as a local priest had also opposed the demolition of the primary school to make way for the shopping complex. It was further pointed out a letter in this regard had also been sent to the local MLA but there was no response yet. They also suggested that a large open space near the school could be utilised for the construction of the shopping complex.
