MARGAO: Agriculturists and social activists from Maddel, Margao on Sunday have resolved to revive agricultural activity in Margao and has vowed to protect the Comunidade agricultural land for future prosterity.
The farmers maintained that paddy fields were left fallow for various reasons, even as they resolved to seek the help of the district Collector and the forest department to clear the fields from the wild trees.
At a meeting held on Sunday, the farmers resolved to seek guidance from the Agricultural Department to commence agricultural activity to avail benefits of the various government schemes and subsidies. Issues hampering the farmers such as absence of access road, illegal land filling, release of sewage in paddy fields were also highlighted. It was also resolved to undertake registration of the names on the survey records.
The farmers have also planned to form a Farmers Society before taking up planned activity and the next meet is scheduled to be held on 16 March at 4 pm in the Immaculate Conception Chapel Hall at Maddel Grande, Margao.
