MARGAO: Residents of Madel, Margao, have once again raised their concerns over the Municipal Council leasing out the parking lot near the Old Market Circle for feast fairs and exhibitions. The citizens have claimed that the fairs cause severe hardships to the residents in the area. In a letter addressed to the Chief Officer of the MMC, Madel resident Savio Dias alleged that despite severe objections in the past, the civic body continues to allow the feast fair at the site, resulting in encroachments, road blockades, traffic congestion, noise pollution, and parking problems.

Dias highlighted that the land was acquired for the development of a parking lot, and organizing feast fairs at the site violates the land acquisition procedure and the council meeting resolution No. 4931. He further stated that the commercial development in the area is happening rapidly, with several restaurants and shopping complexes as well as the District Court up in the vicinity, leading to a shortage of parking space.

The citizens have cited several resolutions passed at council meetings in the past and requested the Chief Officer to refrain from leasing the parking lot for feast fairs and exhibitions. They urged the authorities to understand the hardships faced by the residents and allot the parking space for its intended purpose. The residents have called for an organized approach to the fairs and exhibitions, which would ensure minimal disruption to their daily lives. The citizens have demanded that their voices be heard and their concerns be addressed by the authorities- the ball is now in the MMC’s court.
