Madel residents tell MMC to enforce a proper plan for ‘Purumentachem Fest’

Chief Officer Kadam decides to constitute advisory panel for proper management of feast fair, which is going to start from June 5

MARGAO: Taking serious note of nuisance and mess at the feast fair, residents of Madel, Margao on Monday urged the Margao Municipal Council to come out with proper management, as the commercial town is gearing up to hold a huge fair of “Purumentachem Fest”, here. 

And hence, upon the request of residents, Chief Officer Rohit Kadam has decided to constitute the advisory committee for proper management of the feast fair, which is going to start on June 5. 

Ward Councillor Francis Joanes along with a few other residents including Savio Dias met the Chief Officer on Monday and deliberated over the issue. They brought to the notice of the CO the hardships faced by the people residing in and around Madel due to the feast fair. The CO gave patient hearing to their grievances. 

It is pertinent to note that “Purumentachem Fest” is considered one of the main feasts pertaining to the fair. This fair has always been an issue of controversy due to no proper management, besides nuisance pertaining to garbage and parking. In the end, the people residing in and around Madel face the hardships. 

The Councillor also brought to the notice of the CO that vendors fail to take care of the garbage and sanitation. 

“People residing over here are complaining about the hardships they faced due to the feast fair, wherein they were unable to even enter their house, as a result of blocked excess,” Francis said.

He further said that parking has been another big problem over here pertaining to the feast fair and locals want proper management in this regard. 

Councillor Francis informed that upon their request the Chief Officer has decided to constitute an advisory committee, wherein the representation of locals, besides the councillor, will be a part of the committee. 

As decided, this committee will guide the municipality in the demarcation of stalls, besides other measures, so that nobody faces hardship.
