Madhavi gets her wish and a tearful adieu

MARGAO: Hundreds of people from all walks of life bid adieu to Sahitya Akademi award winner Madhavi Sardesai as her mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Margao crematorium on Tuesday.

MARGAO:  Hundreds of people from all walks of life bid adieu to Sahitya Akademi award winner Madhavi Sardesai as her mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Margao crematorium on Tuesday. 
As per Madhavi’s wish, the last rites were performed by her elder daughter Asawari.
While Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar paid homage to the departed writer at the residence of her husband, Raju Nayak at Comba in the morning, people from all walks of life, from writers to journalists and politicians to artists, including a number of women, assembled at the Pajifond crematorium to pay their respects as Madhavi’s elder daughter lit the funeral pyre. 
Amongst those who paid respects to the Sahitya Akademi award winner was former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digmabar Kamat, Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado, MLAs Reginaldo Lourenco, Vishnu Surya Wagh, Glen Ticlo and Michael Lobo, former Ministers Ravi Naik, Aleixo Sequeira, Babu Azgaonkar, Joaquim Alemao, Subhas Shirodkar, Girish Chodankar, activist Claude Alvares, trade union leaders, Chairman of Goa Konkani Akademi Pundalik Naik, BJP general secretary Satish Dhond and others.
Madhavi had breathed her last early Monday morning after a brief illness.
