PANJIM: Uday Madkaikar was re-elected unopposed as the Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for the second term, while Vasant Agashikar was elected as deputy Mayor.
The term of the new Mayor and Deputy is of one year. Both were administered oath of office by Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues.
Speaking to media persons after taking over charge, Madkaikar said the easy access to the people to the civic amenities and people-friendly administration at CCP has been his motto.
Panjim MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, who was also present, said Madkaikar was selected to represent again on the chair of Mayor as he has done a good job during his last tenure.
Monserrate said both Mayor and Commissioner need to work together in sync to provide better administration to the public.
Responding to a question on the third phase of Panjim Municipal Market, MLA said the project will be most likely to be taken up under Smart City Mission. “We are trying to get the third phase at the earliest,” he stated.
