PANJIM: Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar suffered a brain stroke and underwent a successful surgery at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Madkaikar, 53, was on a visit to Mumbai on Monday for a medical check-up when he suffered the stroke.
Confirming this, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, “He (Madkaikar) had a brain stroke but was successfully operated. I am sure he will be fine. He is in best of the hands and doctors are happy with his recovery.”
Rane later headed to Mumbai along with Goa Medical College and Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr S Bandekar to visit his colleague.
The Cumbarjua MLA has been in the eye of the storm over frequent power failures in the State. The power outage exceeding the planned shutdown of 12 hours in Tiswadi and other parts of Goa on Sunday led to anger among the people. He was also accused of giving an advantage to a builder for shifting a power line by planning the power shutdown in Tiswadi. The Power Minister had, however, denied allegations.
Sources revealed that Madkaikar has been kept on observation for 72 hours after the surgery.
