PANJIM: The Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started investigation into the death of a woman from Goa while she was in the custody of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police Monday.
A woman, 29, was detained by the police after she was found with a 14-year-old girl from the Nigdi area, who had gone missing from her home. The police said the missing girl had gone to Goa to her aunt’s place a few days ago, when she came in contact with the woman. After the girl returned to Nigdi, the woman came to Pune from Goa and took her to Ahmednagar.
The parents of the minor girl filed a missing report at the Nigdi police station, after which an offence of kidnapping was lodged on April 12 and a probe was initiated into the case, after which the woman was detained.
The woman was then brought to the Ota Scheme Police Chowk, which is under the Nigdi police station, for inquiry. According to the police the woman went to the toilet around 4 pm on Monday. When she did not come out, the police broke open the toilet door and found her dead, hanging from the roof of the toilet.
“The deceased woman was held for inquiry as per the legal procedure. She was found to be in contact with the minor girl, who had gone missing. The incident is being investigated by the State CID,” said Senior Police Inspector of the Nigdi police station.
