BICHOLIM: Mahesh Gavande was on Wednesday elected as sarpanch of Velguem panchayat. The post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Govind Gaonkar tendered his resignation as per the mutual agreement.
With no other nomination received, presiding officer Navanath Amre from the Bicholim block declared Gavande elected unopposed. Amre was assisted by panchayat secretary Nitin Shet.
The meeting was attended by deputy sarpanch Unnati Sahastrabuddhe and panchas Samanta Kamat, Mukesh Ghatwal, Kedar Ghadi, Durgadas Naik and Govind Gaonkar.
