‘Maimolem Lake development project to be Goa’s premier water body’

VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar announced on Tuesday afternoon that his ambitious project to develop Maimolem lake is set to become the leading water body project in Goa.

Addressing reporters, Salkar revealed that this project would be a collaborative effort between the Communidade and the government, aimed at enhancing the well-being of Port town residents and executed under the Amrut Sarovar initiative.

“Maimolem lake has been officially designated as a wetland, resulting in increased funding from the central government for its development, a longstanding demand of the Vasco locals. Maimolem lake is of paramount importance to Vasco, and we intend to develop it on a grand scale under the ‘Amrut Sarovar’ initiative. We have already secured the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Communidade, with the project awaiting commencement due to a minor technical issue that we’ve requested to be resolved,” Salkar explained.

He further announced that he would be meeting CM Pramod Sawant on September 14 to discuss the project in detail.

Maimolem Lake currently faces issues with sewage from the entire Mangor area flowing into it, causing a foul stench and spreading diseases in nearby areas. The project aims to address this problem by establishing sewage pumping stations and preventing sewage from entering the pond, consequently reducing odours and mosquito-related issues.

The development of Maimolem lake will be a collaborative effort between the government and the Communidade, featuring aesthetic lighting and various enhancements to provide a ‘wow factor’. Salkar pledged significant visible improvements in Vasco within the next five years through this project.
