According to Almeida the weeding work is progressing on war footing. The MLA was speaking to reporters during an inspection of the weeding work at Maimollem field.
“Earlier, it was only the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority that had taken up first step towards weeding the filed with the help of builders who came forward and offered their donation for the work. Day by day the number of people supporting the cause has been increasing and now corporate houses including NRB group, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) have come forward to extend their help by offering financial support for the ongoing weeding works,” he said.
In the second phase, Almeida said, there is a proposal to construct a 10-meter wide ring road around the field so that people from Vasco can come with their cars and enjoy the beauty of Maimollem filed which now has been getting migratory birds.
Meanwhile, MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar who was present during a joint site inspection of Maimollem field on Wednesday informed that, “MPT has always been contributing towards local community based project. As the Vasco MLA requested us, we decided to come forward and offer monetary help for the weeding work of Maimollem field. As a token of help, we have decided to provide Rs 10 lakh for the project that would be benefiting for the people of port town.”
