MARGAO: In a startling revelation, it has come to light that Ishwar Makhawana, the main accused in the Betalbatim gang rape case, was charged with rape and murder of a girl in Indore on May 1, 2018.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju V Raut Dessai disclosed that a police team from Madhya Pradesh is expected to come to Goa to arrest Ishwar for his involvement in the rape and murder of a girl in Indore.
In Indore too, Ishwar along with two other persons, waylaid two college students, who were sitting in an isolated place and gang-raped the girl. However, fearing that the two may identify them, the young couple was thrown into a drain and later stoned to death.
One of them involved in the Indore case was reportedly arrested by the police in some other case and during interrogation, the accused confessed to the rape and murder.
Police recovered the couple’s skeletal remains and booked a case against Ishwar and two others.
Incidentally, the other two involved are from the same village as Ram, the youngest person involved in the gang rape in Goa. Apparently Ram knows the two feigned ignorance to their involvement in Indore case, police said.
DySP Dessai disclosed that a police team from Indore is likely to come to Goa to arrest Ishwar and added that the Goa Police team will leave for Indore to check the antecedents of the trio.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander on Sunday visited South Goa to enquire into the Betalbatim rape probe.
Dr Muktesh visited Margao and went through the investigation details. He visited the crime site. It may be recalled that a man was also murdered at the same site.
