CURCHOREM:  Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the main objective of demonetisation was to tackle black money, terror, drug and crime funding.
Speaking at the Vijay Sankalp Mahamelava organised by Sanvordem block at Tony Nagar, Sanvordem on Sunday, he said demonetisation should be viewed as an effort to make a cashless society and it can be implemented in a better way in Goa considering the IT infrastructure in the state.
“The Chief Minister and I met some officials and have decided to provide training to traders, bank customers and others throughout Goa to show how to pay through mobiles before December 30. The programme schedule will be announced through publicity,” Parrikar said and urged the gathering to avail the benefits of the training facility so that Goa becomes a model State and can compete with any other State. He further informed that Centre has collected around Rs 3,500 crore from the mining activities in the form of various taxes and the same will be given to the State in coming days, which will be utilised through various schemes to develop mining belt constituencies. He said that Army has been given free hand to give a befitting reply to the enemy whenever there is an attack. 
“Country’s borders became secure due to support and blessings of the people, but economy was not and therefore the prime minister did the second surgical strike on November 8. 
“Despite adverse economic conditions, besides providing subsidies to farmers, BJP implemented several schemes such as Laadli Laxmi, Dayanand Social Security Yojna,” said Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and informed that the State government has fulfilled most assurances given to the people during the last Assembly election.   
Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, MLAs – Ganesh Gaonkar, Nilesh Cabral and Subhash Phal Dessai were present.
