MARGAO: The opposition to the proposed flyover at Dandeavaddo as part of the national highway expansion was a major issue raised at the Chinchinim Village Panchayat gram sabha.

Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who attended the meeting, stated that two inspections had been conducted and the District Collector was apprised about the situation.

The villagers pushed forward their demand for an alternate bypass route via the uncultivated fields be taken up instead of the present alignment which will lead to people losing their houses and property.

In the interim period, the MLA assured that they would look at implementing short term measures such as installing blinkers and rumblers as well as installing rumbler strips. Concerns related to pedestrian crossing were also raised and it was demanded that the highway be manned by Traffic Police.

On another issue of frequent power outages, the MLA stated that he had proposed that underground cabling be undertaken, which would cost Rs 70 crore.

The MLA said the panchayat ghar construction will be taken up by the GSIDC.
